Many a New York meal in its rarest state began at Gansevoort Plaza, the square at the heart of the meatpacking district, at the intersection of Greenwich and Gansevoort Streets. On Saturday, May 30, you can taste meat — cooked, mostly — and much else from restaurants like Buddakan, Spice Market, Pastis, Son Cubano, Matsuri, Ono, Tía Pol, the Red Cat, Cookshop, and eighteen others, at an outdoor event with the slightly unwieldy name of “Tastes from the Meatpacking District through Chelsea.” It’s to benefit the Lab Middle School and High School, a diverse and ambitious public school on 17th Street. Tickets are $45 at the door or $35 online via the official website.
