St. Bart’s has always been our alfresco pick in midtown, but that may change when the Palace Hotel opens Palace Gate nearby in June. Located in the courtyard of the Palace Hotel (you know, the one you always see on Gossip Girl?), the outdoor lounge will serve bar snacks from Gilt such as the aged Cheddar burger; suckling pig tacos loaded with queso fresco, salsa roja, and radish; and chicken wings prepared with yuzu kosho and pickled vegetables. The lounge, open from 4 p.m. till 10:30 p.m. daily, will also offer cocktails and twenty wines by the glass.
Meanwhile, Salon de Ning, not to be outdone by Hudson Terrace’s buffet, is getting in on the rooftop brunch action starting this weekend. Every Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., $49 (plus tax and tip) gets you three courses, with the second course’s four small dishes served bento box–style. It’s a pricey option — and you’re mostly paying for the spectacular view, since Champagne cocktails aren’t included. This one would seem to fall under the category of tourist splurge, but here’s a sample menu nonetheless.
Cucumber and Avocado Gazpacho with grilled shrimp, yellow tomato salsa, and cilantro
Second Course Bento Box
Belgian Waffle with crunchy toffee, mixed berries, and berry compote
Poached Organic Egg with Maine lobster hash and truffled hollandaise

Pan Roasted Striped Bass with Chinese Chive custard, shiitake mushrooms, and toasted sesame sauce
