Getting Toasted: The Friendly Toast Now Open in Kendall Square

After months of anticipation, the Cambridge location of Portsmouth’s The Friendly Toast opened its doors yesterday. Serious Eats got a good look (and a better meal) and reports that while the entire menu isn’t up and running just yet, the current five-pager leaves many of the Portsmouth favorites present and accounted for. Highlights include the huevos rancheros, the booze-soaked Drunkard’s French toast, and of course, the legendary and astronomically large Heath Bar pancakes, filled with the candy. Just like in Portsmouth, the walls are brightly colored and covered with kitsch of all sorts. This week, The Friendly Toast is only open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., but the full hours will go into effect next week.
