Boston Public Libary’s Restaurants Get an Upgrade

The Courtyard Restaurant (nee Novel) and the Map Room Cafe have reopened under the formidable eye of The Catered Affair’s Holly Safford, reports the Globe. Safford hopes to make the BPL a dining destination for visitors from Boston and beyond. The library has never done a great job of promoting its in-house restaurants and, at Novel, average daily sales hovered under $250 for an entire year. Safford plans to increase business by offering a new seasonal and local menu with high-end dishes like spring pea and mascarpone tortelli with truffle foam, expanding to offer dinner, as well as lunch, and possibly setting up an eating area in the actual courtyard. The Map Room Cafe will also be operated by Safford, though it will retain its more casual nature.
