Aujourd ‘hui, the Four Seasons fine dining restaurant, will close July 1, reports the Herald. Bristol Lounge will be the hotel’s only dining option and Aujourd’hui will be renamed and used only for private events. Unsurprisingly, the economy is to blame for Aujourd’hui’s closing - it turns out that $40 entrees don’t really fly in this day and age, even at the Four Seasons. Compounding Aujourd’hui’s problems is the simple fact that though it’s food is well-regarded, unlike other similarly-priced options in the area like L’Espalier and No. 9 Park, it’s generally been regarded less as a dining destination in its own right than as a hotel restaurant. Aujourd’hui is the second major high-end restaurant to shutter in the immediate Common area in 2009: Excelsior closed in February.
