What to Eat at Clerkenwell

Clerkenwell, the LES gastropub that manages to be a trendy restaurant type in a trendy neighborhood, will open tomorrow. Eater has photos, but we’ve got the dinner menu. Chef Shay Kelly, who cooked for nine years in London, calls it “classical, very English sort of gastropub food.”

Starters

Mugs of house soup
English breaded goat’s cheese with pickled baby beets, mixed salad, hazelnuts
Country-style paté, red-onion marmalade, toasted granary bread
Smoked haddock & green pea fishcake with horseradish cream
English tea-smoked Scottish salmon with pickled cucumber
Walnut-crusted chicken, classic Waldorf salad of celery leaves, sweet Granny Smith apples and mixed baby lettuce

Mains

Freshly breaded fish-finger sandwich on toasted crusty bread with ketchup
Yorkshire toad in the hole with English sausages, cream mashed potato and gravy
IPA ale and beef pie, mashed potatoes & mushy peas
Pea & leek tart with baby leaves, fresh mint & poached egg
Slow-roasted belly of pork, parsnip puree, baby onions & baby carrots
1/2 lb. Angus beef burger, twice-cooked fat chips, salad
