In a move worthy of inclusion on This Is Why You’re Fat, Davis Square’s Kickass Cupcakes is now offering deep-fried cupcakes. Guys, no. No. First of all, frying is all about making something crisp. It is very hard (if not impossible) to crisp a cake. Secondly, you can’t deep-fry frosting, which means the cupcake is not frosted. This is sad! Third, the calorie bomb is apparently not even delicious. Local blogger Carolyn Grantham tried one and found it to be “a big, soggy fistful.”
Perhaps the strangest thing about the deep fried cupcake, however, is the way that it’s combining two food trends that were never meant to meet: deep frying and cupcakes. Color us shocked that bacon was not somehow involved in this debacle.
