The Alinalien: A Cocktail That Encapsulates Alinea

A tipster just forwarded us this blog entry from one Sean McAndrew, who appears to be a Chicago art student whose class was asked to create a drink recipe that encapsulates a local bar. Despite the fact that it’s kind of the diametric opposite of a bar, Sean picked as his subject Alinea.

Of his choice, Sean says: “Alinea is a very high class place requiring reservations and plenty of money. I was expecting an expensive bar because of the area, but the ridiculousness of this place stunned my imagination. $300 for a 24 course meal is beyond reason, and I chose to show this with my choice of drink … My made up drink is titled the Alinalien, consisting of an alien life form as only people with this kind of money would create such a ridiculous rarity.”

And what goes into an Alinalien? It kind of hits the nail on the head: it’s one part alien life form, two parts discreet location, three parts hundred dollar bill, and one part glow stick. Reservations required. Pour that sucker into some kind of topologically impossible vessel produced by Crucial Detail, and you’re in business.
