Further exacerbating the risk of a kid-critic invasion, Best of New York kiddie cooking class Cupcake Kids! has a new series of chef-led restaurant tours and classes called Urban Foodies. Chef Pichet Ong hosts the first event at Batch on March 21 when he demos, yes, cupcakes! What’s next, Reichl-Disguises-R-Us? Adults jonesing for group sugar highs can resort to the Ritz-Carlton’s new Cupcake Tea on weekends from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (when five mini-cupcakes for $25 better include tea worth $20) or buying retail. The latest expanding cupcakery: Billy’s Bakery will open a second shop at 75 Franklin Street in Tribeca by May. Cupcake Kids! class info follows after the jump.

Cupcake Kids! (a company that hosts kid’s cooking classes, birthday parties and school field trips at my restaurant, P*ONG). is launching Urban Foodies, a new and exciting cooking class series for kids ages 8-14. Young foodies will go behind the scenes of New York City’s best restaurants, bakeries, and gourmet markets; they’ll get a private tour, interact with staff, sample signature dishes, and most importantly, get some hands-on cooking experience.

Join us for our first Urban Foodies class as we visit notable pastry chef Pichet Ong’s bakery, Batch, nominee for Best New Bakery by Time Out New York, and restaurant, P*ONG. Beginning with an insiders’ tour of the downstairs kitchen at P*ONG, led by Pichet himself, we’ll hear the secrets on how a real restaurant kitchen operates. Next, we’ll head next door to the bakery for some hands-on activities as we learn how to make Pichet’s favorite cupcake.
