New Website To Automate Locavorism

Here’s a neat thing: This company (still in beta) FarmsReach, hopes to become a virtual marketplace for local produce, posting local farmers’ current products online and liasing between the farmer and buyer to arrange a delivery or pickup at a farmers’ market.

A few San Francisco restaurants have already signed up, according to earth2tech, including Americano Restaurant and Bar, Globe and Absinthe Brasserie & Bar.

What’s supposed to happen is you put in the maximum distance from which you want you food shipped, your preference of either delivery or farmers’ market pickup, and the date you want it, then search for the item you need.

We tried poking around on the site but there’s not much happening yet, it seems. We couldn’t find any pick-ups or deliveries for, well, anything at all over the next few days. But like we said, it’s still in beta, so once momentum builds, this could be a really useful tool for sourcing local produce. Hope it works out.
