New NoLibs Restaurant From Bistro 7 Owner

Yesterday, the Insider reported that Bistro 7’s Michael O’Halloran is opening Kong in Northern Liberties in the former Sovalo space. All we knew then was that Kong aims to be Chinese comfort food, inspired by the open-air food stalls of Hong Kong.

Today, Joy Manning at Philly Mag has more details on the food

The menu isn’t complete yet, but O’Holleran tempted our tastebuds with three “filled buns” offerings (orange- and honey-glazed pork belly with watercress, Chinese barbequed pork with pickled cucumber, and Peking roast duck with leeks and hoisin); noodle bowls with crab, asparagus and coconut curry; and five-spice braised lamb and long beans. O’Halloran expects to open Kong in May.

Kong will be a very different creature than Bistro 7 in many regards, right down to alcohol: where Bistro 7 is a BYOB, Kong already has a liquor license.
