Masa A Favorite Among Budget-Conscious Bostonians

We’ve already heard endless stories of how Boston’s more expensive restaurants aren’t reeling in the crowds like they used to. Sure, people splurge on a special occasion for a meal at places like L’Espalier, but when it comes to just an ordinary night out, it’s just not in the budget. While hunting for budget-friendly options, we started hearing rumors that the South End’s Masa was offering tapas for $1 each and 10 tapas for $10. Impossible, we assumed. Alas, we were proven wrong. Masa’s tapas deals really are that cheap, but still maintain the quality we know and love. Some evenings, the tapas are even 50 cents each, but we suggest confirming the deal is on for that night before you come in with a roll of quarters.

While the super-cheap tapas are specifically offered in the bar area, nobody really minds hanging out in such a comfy yet fun atmosphere. When it comes to the menu, staff tells us that fan favorites include the ahi tuna ceviche with avocado, the shredded chicken taquito with ancho chile aioli, and the empanadas with salsa. While the food may definitely be on the cheap, the trademark margaritas are still a bit more expensive. Try the tamarind chipotle margarita, which was the drink du jour at the Taste of the South End Tuesday night. It was equal parts spicy and refreshing. So if you’re looking to keep some money in your wallet, splurge on a couple Masa margaritas, and just hunt through your change drawer for the quarters to buy those tapas.
