Five Seventy Market Adds to the South End’s Gourmet Grocer Glut

Boston on the Go reports that Five Seventy Market, a new gourmet grocer, has opened in the old Bostonian Market space on Tremont Street. Five Seventy Market’s website promises the store to be “a market of specialty markets* … a market like none other!” Really? Because within a five minute walk of Five Seventy, there are no less than eight other gourmet and specialty grocers. For Asian ingredients, you can head to Ming’s or Super 88, or for Middle Eastern, the Syrian Grocery Import Co. Looking for cheese? South End Formaggio has you covered. Fruits and veggies? Try Plum Produce. General high-end foodstuffs? Foodie’s Urban Market is a mere block away and Lionette’s is across the street. It’s great that the South End has so many fine food shopping options, but Five Seventy had better follow through on their promise to be a market like no other to survive in this ‘hood.

*Despite the wording, Five Seventy is not a market that sells other specialty markets.
