Are The Real Deal’s Sandwich Names Offensive?

One John Sacco of Roslindale wrote in to the West Roxbury Transcript to complain that he finds the sandwiches at The Real Deal offensive. He wonders “Why the need for a bad stereotype menu that is advertising gangster wraps with Italian surnamed mobsters as if “Italians” were the only mobsters in America?” Here’s the thing: while there certainly are plenty of Mafia-inspired names on the Gangster Wraps menu, there are also at least two Jewish thugs (Meyer Lansky and Bugsy Siegel) and the Apache Kid.

Most Transcript readers seem to disagree with Sacco. In a poll conducted by Parkway Blog, the majority of respondents felt that the sandwich names at The Real Deal are not an issue. Us, we’ll hold out until they start offering the Avon Barksdale.
