Hungry Mother Celebrates Its Whirlwind First Year

March 18th marks Hungry Mother’s one year anniversary. While there were always promising elements in place (a former Lumiere chef, an ex-general manager of Sel De La Terre) it had yet to explode into one of the most popular restaurants in greater Boston. Almost a year later, Hungry Mother is frequently hailed as a vital component of Boston dining, and recently was named a semi-finalist in the “Best New Restaurant” category of the James Beard Foundation Awards.

So why is the restaurant such a success? What separates it from the many other new restaurants sprouting up in Boston? We asked various guests why they enjoy the Mother so much, and they simply stated that it’s something different than any other place in town. The fusion of French cuisine and Southern comfort food isn’t a traditional mix, but it certainly is delicious. Main courses range from French style gnocchi with foraged mushrooms, kale, and butternut squash broth to cornmeal catfish. With the praise of critics and the reservations of endless Bostonians, it’s safe to say Hungry Mother will be around for awhile.
