We generally save our opening and closing news for The Monday Report, but this is too important to wait. Boylston Street fine dining mainstay Excelsior has closed. The restaurant, renowned for its excellent wine list and innovative cuisine, had been open for five years. As Dishing notes, Excelsior had instituted a number of deals lately: rarely a good sign for a restaurant.
We prefer to look on the bright side, even in times of economic woe, but this is not a great sign for the state of high-end dining in Boston. Himmel Hospitality Group will open a new restaurant in the now former Excelsior space this fall. It will be more casual.
