Berkeley Burrito Brawl

Okay, let’s just get this out there, regarding Monday’s brawl at Juan’s Place in Berkeley: Juan’s is not that great for burritos. Combo plates with giant pools of rice and beans? Yes. Wine Sangria? Hell yes. Flour tortilla chips? Oh, dear God, yes, yes, yes! But burritos? Meh.

Perhaps that’s why the three guys who stumbled into Juan’s on Tuesday wanted them for free. Instead, as you may have heard, they got a severe ass beating. In fact, one of them was reportedly still unconscious on Tuesday evening, according to the Oakland Tribune. Here’s how it went down:

Berkeley police say shortly after three men walked into Juan’s Place restaurant Tuesday afternoon, they became involved in an argument with employees over free food, which the men often received at the restaurant.

A police spokesman says when two of the three men brandished a knife and a belt, two restaurant workers grabbed an iron tire and metal pipe and beat one of the men.

So, um, dang. We love Juan’s for the reasons stated above (not for the burritos, remember), and have celebrated a couple inebriated birthdays there. But we will absolutely be on our best behavior there from now on. Jesus.
