Last week, we wrote wrote about the fire that gutted the strip of restaurants along Peterborough in the Fenway. This area provided us with many special memories from our college days of hanging on the picnic benches outside El Pelon and Rod Dee 2, and nursing many a hangover with our girlfriends inside Thorton’s Fenway Grille. Despite the endless amount of property damage that sits as a reminder of what was lost, we were thrilled to hear some positive rumblings around the internet.
On Sautrday, January 17th, there will be a tribute to Thornton’s Fenway Grille held at Copperfield’s Bar on Brookline Ave, just down the street from the Peterborough strip. Best of all, this evening will serve as a casual fundraiser for those who lost their jobs in the fire. We have to remember that behind all those burgers and cheese fries we wolfed down were many dedicated employees who are now out of jobs. Additional financial donations will go towards rebuilding this lively area. So whether you can only stop by for a second to give a donation, or you’re planning on drinking the entire night away in the name of Thorton’s, give what you can to a worthy cause. They may not serve “Fenway Freezers” or know how to soak your fries in cheese, but nobody’s perfect.
