Watch The Super Bowl In Sympathy In SF

The Steelers Shrine at Pittsburgh’s Pub

Game-time is bearing down on us, folks. And if you’re in the minority of San Franciscans who aren’t hosting a Super Bowl party, you may feel like just moseying over to your local Steelers or Cardinals bar and catching the game on their TV. Fair enough, but if you don’t already hang out in such a joint regularly, you may need a bit of help finding one. And here it is:

Steelers: This dynasty team has a big web presence, which helped us track down a few bars listed by Steeler Addicts as “Steelers bars” in San Francisco. We haven’t been to every one of these places, but we were not surprised to see Pittsburgh’s Pub, way out Judah in the Sunset, on the list. Others on the list, such as the Phoenix and the Dubliner, seem to be more or less going along for the ride, offering all the football games they can. Our advice: If you’re any sort of fan, you’ll trek out to the Sunset to be with your people.

Cardinals: This team seems to have less of an entrenched fan-base, or at least less of an online presence. Perhaps changing cities every few years is a bad way to build up loyalty. Anyway, according to its Yelp reviews, the Overtime Sports Bar is a solid bet for Cards fans wanting a sympathetic crowd, but apart from that, we couldn’t find much.

Bruce Springsteen: As a consolation prize to underrepresented Cards fans, or those who mostly like the half-time show anyway — whichever — we have it on pretty good authority from the biggest Springsteen fan in the city that the Horseshoe Tavern, in the Marina, traditionally has a ton of the Boss on the juke. They also have a bunch of screens and will be showing the game. An employee there said today that they just got one of those internet Jukeboxes, but he said you can still hear a lot of the Boss, and that the Horseshoe could qualify as a “Springsteen bar.”

So there you go. Hopefully you can find a good venue. Just to be sure, you should probably go out drinking in every sports bar you can think of between now and Sunday. Leave little to chance.

Next time: Where to order take-out for that Super Bowl party you’re hosting but are too lazy to cater.
