Indian food always scared the bejeesus out of us. Until we finally sucked it up and indulged in the wonderful world of this cheap and delectable ethnic food, we lived in the same fear as our fellow highly-neurotic and Pepto-Bismol chugging friends with nervous stomachs. How could we ever enjoy Indian food without our tummies turning into a pit of fire? But we just had to learn how to pick and choose what to order. We finally had the chance to visit India Samraat, one of the most critically acclaimed Indian restaurants in all of Boston. In fact, it was voted “Best of Boston” in 2007. (No word on what happened in 2008, but we’re guessing Samraat didn’t go downhill).
If you’re gastro-intestinally challenged, here’s how to go about attacking the menu. India Samraat’s vegetable samosas are crispy turnovers stuffed with chick peas, green peas, potatoes and spices. We like to pair it up with a little bit of cheese Naan, which is always plentiful at Samraat. One of our favorite secret indulgences has to be the Cheese Pakora, which is home made cheese slices dipped in chick-pea batter and deep fried. Yeah, it might not be on Oprah’s healthy list, but it’s damn good. One of the best parts is that India Samraat delivers! That’s right, Indian food in bed! Also, they do the corporate delivery thing, so if your boss is nice enough to pay for lunch, push a Samraat menu across the conference room table.
