Rumors have been swirling for months about The Publick House’s new venture, Roadhouse BBQ (1700 Beacon St, (617) 487-4289). We already love so many things about Publick - their amazing beer selection, their great bar food, the burgers - so did they really need to expand? They already have the small Provisions shop down the block, and while the bar gets packed on the weekends (and well, every night too), we weren’t entirely convinced.
So far, though, we’re impressed. The beer selection can and does compete with Publick. They have a cool selection of microbrews, which we love. And the BBQ? Amazing. We know we have many options for this sort of thing around Boston, but no one in Brighton or Brookline is doing it so well. The pork ribs and shrimp are equally delish, and the service has been great since they opened. Some restaurants have an adjustment period, but it’s safe to say Roadhouse skipped right over that.
Take your vegetarian friends, who will fill up on sweet potato salad, collard greens, and vegetarian chili. Everyone else, get ready to fill up on warm comfort food like the chicken corn chowder and burgers. But get there soon. The crowds are starting to rival the ones at Publick, too. Guess if you do something right, people will keep piling in. We’re happy to be among them.
