• Adam Erace posits that bars are powerful agents of revitalization, and points to the South Philly Tap Room as the pioneer of this for Newbold. Tap Room on 19th holds a lot of promise as the next bar to help out with this. The food is good, they have good specials, and it’s a warm space.

• Winter is settling down upon us, but that is no reason to become a bundle of gloom and drear. Why’s that, you ask? Because winter means hearty and heartening foods and drinks, of course. Beth Lesko has lots of advice to this effect: comfort food at Pub & Kitchen, brunch at Marigold Kitchen, and signature cocktails at Bar 210 at Lacroix are all options.

• A sweet piece on Liz Begosh, “founder of local fudge favorite Betty’s Tasty Buttons.” She’s hoping to open Betty’s Speakeasy, a 650 square foot space that will house a kitchen and a store, by Thanksgiving.
