• Da Vinci Ristorante gets a second visit from LaBan, and does not fare well. Most egregiously, a sugar allergy was overlooked, but the meal suffered from various mistakes throughout.
• LaBan’s ’Drink’ column recommends the 2005 Earthquake Petit Sirah, and says that “it delivers such an intense concentration of inky dark fruit and tannins, it practically rumbles across the palate.” Perhaps he used it to clear his palate after the Da Vinci experience?
• Metropolitan Bakery, which has been going strong since 1993, gets a profile in this weekend’s Inky. Even though the whole world is worrying about the economy, etc: “in troubled times, the slow food and good food and local food movements have boosted the bakery’s fortunes,” mostly because people are seeking out feel-good foods.
