Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters

That’s our favorite Elton John song ever. Period. Remember how it plays in Almost Famous when lovelorn William hauls ass through the hotel to find Penny Lane almost incoherent after chowing down a bottle of Quaaludes? Breaks our heart ever time. But if we’re speaking of mad hatters, it’s only appropriate we bring up the Red Hat. As the the song lyrics say, “sons of bankers sons of lawyers turn around and say good morning to the night.” We couldn’t think of a more pefect description of this tiny, yet comfortable bar at the bottom of Bowdoin Street in Beacon Hill. The clientele pretty much does look like a bunch of bankers’ and laywers’ sons, but there’s a lot more diversity.

Located right around the corner from the State House, young area politicos can unwind in this comfortable location amidst the crowds of people that work in the area lwho are looking for a nice drink after work. Okay, there may be at least one guy in there named Biff. But when it comes down to it, The Red Hat draws all types of people. Monday nights are dedicated to watching football on one of their 7 televisions. Tuesdays and Wednesdays feature 10 cent wings, so empty out your change bucket and come on by. Our favorite night however, is Wednesday. The Red Hat features one of the toughest Trivia Nights around on Wednesdays, and even sound clips are incorporated into the game. So whether it’s the football, the wings, or the trivia that pulls you into the Red Hat, we think you’d enjoy coming by. Feel free to take off your hat and stay awhile.
