Cheese Cave Opens Underneath Jacques

We hear that Gibraltar, the tiny lounge that’s tucked beneath the Nolita bistro Jacques, closed this summer, and owner Jacques Ouari will reopen it in late November. Last time we were there (a long time ago), it was 5 a.m. and the bartender told us she was on Special K. True story. Despite the space’s unmarked entrance and sexy exposed brick walls, Ouari is not, shockingly enough, going the Über-exclusive club route (that didn’t exactly work for FR.OG nearby). Instead, he’ll open a small fondue spot. The small bar stays. We’ll wait till the menu (and the place’s name) is final to tell you what, exactly, that means.
