Rose Bar’s Doorman Celebrates His Second by Bouncing Kanye

Happy birthday, Rose.

Rose Bar was promising the door policy would be “tighter than usual” for the bar’s second-anniversary party Tuesday night, meaning anyone who wasn’t a personal fave of the bar’s creative director, our own Nur Khan, would probably have to reenact the crazy ax scene from The Shining to get in. Kanye West was turned away. An unnamed Gossip Girl rolled up and, according to a witness, “Damien was like, ‘I don’t care,’” referring to the bar’s sometimes-charming, often-unmovable doorman.

Among those who did make it in: Jacquetta Wheeler, Paz de la Huerta, and Michael Pitt. Also Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro, who each played an acoustic set. But people were getting dissed on the inside, too, as when Mark Ronson (another New York Diet alum) sauntered through the lobby and approached Khan: “You know how you asked me to D.J. tomorrow night?” After Ronson had gone out the door, Khan turned to us and explained: “Actually, I wanted Mark to D.J. tonight, and he said he’d be out of town.” Ouch! What did Khan make of that? “He’s a little star who’s in the right place at the right time,” Khan said. After this “little” barb, Khan hastened to add: “And he’s making some amazing music.”
