While there are more than a few places to grab a slice before or after a Sox game, there’s one that breeds a familiarity, where the servers remember you and the wood-fired pies are always fresh. It’s a place we’ve been known to seek out beyond our pre-game cravings, and that gem is known as Woody’s.
Unassuming name means unassuming place, and we love the divey pizza joint feeling without any of the dive symptoms. Clean, well-mannered, and keeping more civilized hours than some drunken bars we know (too well) elsewhere, Woody’s is a nice haven for the mid-20s crowd wanting to break free of the freshman vibe. It’s a place for folks who want to watch a game on TV without heading to a sports bar. Their thin crust pizzas far surpass nearby chain spots offering thicker options, and their combo of beer on tap and crusty sandwiches rival the best family-owned pizzerias around the city. Try the BBQ chicken or mushrooms to start. Their salad pizzas aren’t bad either, if you’re into that sort of thing.
A solid bet for a Fenway or Symphony afternoon. Head back more than three times, we guarantee they’ll remember you.
