Jamaica Plain has all sorts of style and laid back dive-type spots for drinks and snacks. Always on the lookout for the quirks, our latest JP love has a monthly brew on tap, hanger steak with garlic mashed potatoes, a daily burger special, and a solid brunch to boot. We know there’s a lot of brunch in JP already, but why hate on one more solid option?
The Dogwood Cafe smells amazing when you walk in the door, and the wall of brick oven baking smacks you in the face. This place made us love the warm tomato salad, which we previously thought was not a good idea. We were so wrong. Breakfast pizza for brunch - who would have thought? And save room for Chocolate Espresso Cake. You can be sure we were right about that one. The service can be hit or miss, but they have yet to screw up our order, and really, isn’t that what matters?
Live, local folk music on Friday and Saturday night makes this locals haunt one of our new favorite dark bars or takeout choices near Forest Hills.
