The Recession’s Foodie Friend

Why is it always “comfort food”? Don’t get us wrong - we love it, any kind, anywhere - but is it ever going to be uncomfortable? Really? Our guess is only when you eat too much, which is entirely possible.

Comfort food of the South American type (Venezuelan, to be exact), Orinoco has been racking up awards for its deliciousness for years. Empanadas get the ravest reviews from us, and South American wines flow, keeping your conversation in a similar way. Several appetizers split among friends make a filling sampler dinner. Like most of our fave spots in town, this is a teeny, intimate space, and for that reason, they don’t accept reservations for dinner (so roll in early), though a lunch of 4+ can be accommodated if you phone ahead of time. Save room for molten chocolate cake known as Torta Fluida. And easy on the bank account, you ask? Oh yes. Recession has a friend in dining out, and it’s located in the South End (and now, in Brookline too!).
