Ladies and gentleman, it’s the dawn of the “locapour”! Today from noon to about 2 p.m., the Union Square Greenmarket officially launches a weekly event that will pair wines from Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and the Finger Lakes with Greenmarket dishes from restaurants such as Back Forty and Republic. Rory Callahan, president of Wine & Food Associated, a marketing company that works with states and regions from South Africa to New York, tells us the Greenmarket’s “New York Winestand” is an effort to draw higher quality winemakers, such as Wolffer Estate. Last Friday, Anthony Road sold all of its bottles, and today Robert Ransom will pour Rivendell Winery product while Parlor Steakhouse’s executive chef Lucas Billheimer educates locavores in the ways of his marinated heirloom tomatoes with red-onion confit and Gorgonzola mousse. Hey, the holiday weekend is upon us — why not make it a drinking lunch?
