Cheesesteaks and Bar Towels at the NYC Food Film Fest

The NYC Food Film Festival is back, with more movies, and more food, than last year’s debut event. The sophomore edition runs from June 14 through June 20 at Harry’s Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City. Every evening has a different food theme, ranging from German currywurst one night to barbecue another and even an opening-night “cheesesteak blowout” direct from Philadelphia’s legendary Tony Luke’s. (On Tuesday, pizza night, the festival moves to a lot next to Grimaldi’s.)

We’re looking forward to This Is My Cheesesteak, a tribute to Philadelphia’s signature sandwich; Pure and Simple, a documentary about Tony Mangieri, the obsessive pizza genius behind Una Pizza Napoletana in the East Village; and Confessions of a Bar Towel, which the program describes as a “mesmerizing short film about the day-in-the-life of a common bar towel.” No matter what you’re watching at Harry’s, be sure to eat the burger — the recent victor of the Burger Battle of the Boroughs.
