Breaking: Beard Nominees Sent to Judges

James Beard Award judges just received their “long lists” — the nominees from which the five finalists in all nineteen categories are drawn. So if you’re not on this list, you’re out. We got a copy too, so look for your name below.

The national awards are short this year on New York representation. Only two New York chefs made the cut for pastry honors: Pichet Ong of P*ONG and Gina DePalma of Babbo. Three hometown boys made it into the “Rising Star Chef” sweepstakes: Wesley Genovart of Degustation, Gavin Kaysen of Café Boulud, and Ryan Skeen of Resto. And only Dan Barber of Blue Hill is nominated for “Chef of the Year”. Gramercy Tavern and Jean Georges are the only nominees for “Outstanding Restaurant”. And, amazingly, only two New York eateries are nominated for “Best New Restaurant” Anthos and Soto.
