Update: Hog Island Open

On the heels of yesterday’s news of the Drake’s Bay Oyster Co. shutdown, we received a statement from Hog Island Oyster Co., dated Saturday, that said they are still open, but operating with a “full ‘rain-closure’ harvest.”

That means that they’re not pulling any more oysters out of the bay right now, but their clean-water tanks are full of the bi-valves. They’re still sending oysters down to their shop at the Ferry Building, so for now, you can go shuck and suck in relative peace. As always, we’ll keep you posted.

Meanwhile, another Marin community is less than satisfied at the help they’re getting from authorities in protecting a pristine bit of West-Marin bird habitat.
