New York food blog par excellence Grub Street reports that Boston’s favorite celebrity chef is expanding his New York empire. Todd English will be opening Gild Hall sometime next spring in a swanky swanky new hotel going up in the Financial District. The theme? English (as in the country) classics with an emphasis on protein, as seen through the eyes of English (as in the chef). We’re thinking that the poultry will be second to none. Miraculously, the prices don’t sound too terrible: appetizers in the $6-12 range and entrees under $30.
Gild Hall (located on Gold Street, geddit?) will be Chef English’s third New York restaurant (well, the fourth if you count the Figs branch at LaGuardia Airport, which we don’t). There’s an Olives NY outpost in Union Square and 2006 saw the fairly short-lived English is Italian in Midtown. We’re hoping that Gild Hall leans toward the success of the former, but really, we’re just happy it’s not called English is English.
