Tomato Salad, Eritrean Style

We’ve found what might be Philadelphia’s best tomato salad… and it’s at an Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant. Here’s the word from Uwishunu on Dahlak:

The difference between a tomato and a tomato salad is all in the seasoning. Seasoning that emphasizes fresh-tomato-yness rather than covering it up. The tomato salad at Dahlak is drizzled with olive oil, onions, lemon, parsley, and green chili peppers– a brilliant combination.Dahlak’s original twist is that the chopped tomato is poured right onto the spongy injera bread, which soaks up the spicy cool oil and perfectly complements the flavor of the tomatoes. The Eritrean dishes there are delicious too, but the temptation to always order them paired with the tomato salad is so strong that I’ve yet to overcome it.
