Imbibing: Friday Art Opening @ Swim Café

Since we’re in a back-2-skool mode, maybe it would be interesting to check out some artistic manifestations of collegiate scholarship in the form of an art opening tonight at Swim Café for Sean Buckelew, 20, and Joanna van Rensselaer, 21, of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. There will be wine (hence imbibing) and snacks and young people, which, come to think of it, is sort of problematic. While Ms. van Rensselaer is free to do whatever she wishes, Mr. Buckelew will have to abstain to stay on the right side of the law. Will he remain righteous as the evening wears on? You will have to attend the opening to find out.

Oh, by the way, here’s what the artists say about their work, so you can have a sense:

Sean’s comic narratives focus on characters as they experience love, inspiration, depression and desperation.

Joanna’s collage work is generated by her own emotions and her observations of those that transpire between the people around her. By creating similar relationships between collected images, she constructs scenes that evoke optimistic, playful and bittersweet feelings.
