Yes, two colons! But seriously, the Greater Illinois chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is throwing a charity beer event at State tonight, starting at 7pm. CF is a really serious and sad disease, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun while you’re raising money to fight it. The event features a tasting (okay, probably more than a tasting) of beers from a variety of national and microbrewers, including Goose Island, Great Lakes Brewing Co., and Roundhouse. Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door, and $65 for VIP (a rather small markup; reception starts at 6pm). “Heavy” appetizers will be served, as well they should be with so much beer flowing - one certainly would not want the event to turn into a frat party. There will be an auction with items like an “autographed Walter Payton football in glass case with Certificate of Authenticity” and a poker table top and dealer set, presumably near the end of the event when everyone is drunk and generous. So if you like sports, beer, and curing tragic genetic diseases, this might be the Festive-Ale for you.
