Best Of MenuPages Reviews: South Side, Part II!

We may not do reviews at MenuPages, but our legions of users are all over that. Here are three of interest.

We did our first BOMPR focused on the South Side at the tail end of July, and since this week’s crop of reviews was uninspiring, we’re going to revisit our favorite giant block of territory. Note that, for some reason, all three user aliases are awesome. In reverse chronological order:

On 9/9, “Resolute” reminisced about Harambee House Banquets:

Our banquet was held in July 2004. The room was clean and ready when we arrived early to set up. The dance floor, podium, special diets and tables were set-up as pre-arranged. The bathrooms were clean. Plenty of well-lighted parking spaces. The food was okay. The wait-staff were helpful and very professional. Their friendliness was not at all overboard. The young waiter readily and very ably accommodated my table’s last minute special request. The bartender was good also. We ran a few minutes over, because of some stragglers, and the staff did not get upset. I will definitely be back!

Wow, three years ago everything was wonderful, and only now Resolute is promising to return? What was wrong with ‘05 or ‘06? By the way, there are now two restaurants in Chicago whose names contain the word “Harambee” (the other one is African Harambee).

Four days earlier, “Missyvilly” left a simple, but to-the-point, review for De Rice:

We ordered the family of 4 value meal and received an incredible amount of food! Not only did the delivery come within 15 minutes, the food was piping hot an extremely fresh and tasty. With everything you could need in a complete meal from appetizers to sodas - and leftovers! DeRice is a great place.

Getting a good value and high quality on Chinese food is a feat anywhere. But people seem to really like DeRice, based on the totality of its reviews.

On 9/4, “Deacon” (didn’t we tell you about the aliases?) referenced Google Earth and pin feathers, and used “mob” as a noun of assemblage to describe the fries at Mississippi Rick’s:

Found Mississippi Rick’s when GoogleEarth - ing for a place to grab a bite when visiting our son at a nearby college. Glad we found it! We picked up 3 LARGE boxes of food for under $22 which is unheard of in the city! I’m still working on the leftovers!

Great sauce on my tips…good, rich, just enough kiss of the smoke. The wings were large, ok, maybe a few too many pin feathers were still hanging around, but I can forgive that, besides, I never eat that end piece anyway! Our boy, non-culinary adventurer that he is, opted for the chopped steak/cheeseburger…that dressed, with a mob of fries for only $4 was the best Chicago burger deal we’ve ran across!

yep…we’ll be back, there’s too many food options to pick from! I know I’ll be finding excuses to visit my boy a lot more!
