Diner’s Agenda: August Is A Beautiful Thing

Diner’s Agenda has been eating naught but heirloom tomatoes all week.

Friday, August 17
•Perhaps our number one favorite kind of dining event is the whole hog dinner. There’s something both Yankee thrifty (you’re using the entire pig) and amazingly decadent (dude, it’s a whole pig) about the idea and we can hardly help our obsession. Tonight, Southborough’s Tomasso Trattoria gets into the hog wild act with a dinner entitled “Beauty of the Beast” which will feature five mind-numbingly awesome courses packed full of porcine perfection. The cost? A mere $85. The party starts at 7:00 sharp, so make sure to save your spot by calling (508) 481-8484. [Tomasso Trattoria]

Saturday, August 18
•August, to our mind at least, is responsible for the best of summer’s harvest, so what better time could there be for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society to throw its Massachusetts Marketplace Festival? The event runs from 10am-4pm at MassHort and features a plethora of local food vendors, as well as fun activities for kids (face painting!) and grown ups (plants on sale!). Tickets, which may be purchased onsite, are a mere $2-6. A bargain at twice the price! [Massachusetts Horticultural Society]
•Restaurant Week is officially over as of Saturday, but there are still dining deals to be found! Perhaps the best is over at Excelsior, which will be offering a three-course dinner for $49 through September 3. $49 for three courses might not seem like an amazing deal, but keep in mind that these are high end items like heirloom tomatoes and lobster. Mmmmm….high end items. Call (617) 426-7878 to reserve. [Excelsior]
