Why Isn’t This Convention In Chicago?

This video of the Bartender Convention in New York from Slate is a narrativeless, but nevertheless rich, critique of American culture by way of the latest innovations in bar technology. That is to say, bottles with light bulbs in them, devices that shove limes into Corona, giant lava lamps, dedicated rim salters, and so on and so forth. The editing is arch, and the picture painted, scary. We don’t think the proceedings are a sign of the imminent collapse of the American empire, per se, because this is the part of our culture that the rest of the world can’t get enough of. Enjoy!

(p.s. the video may randomly cut out. For shame, Brightcove!)
