Opening: Village Restaurant (Or Restraunt)

Kabob Corner just got a little competition in the West Loop South Asian arena. Village Restaurant opened on Canal Street the other day, serving a standard complement of Indo-Pak dishes, mostly under $7 a la carte. The suprises come via typos, mostly. A Fish Bake platter ($8.49) is made with the chef’s secret reciepe [sic], and the name of the restaurant itself, which the menu claims is Village Restraunt [sic]. We’ll chalk this up to the language barrier, but having someone spell check and copy edit your menu before you send it out to the world is not beyond the call of duty for a restaurateur. On the other hand, we thank them for their literalism in describing their beef and goat as “boneless,” because occasionally they’re not and we get disgruntled. Meanwhile, LTHForum is not yet in love with the place, but only time will tell. If nothing else, they’re selling a blueberry (actually, blue berry [sic]) shake for $2.95, which is a good price.
