The Globe and Chowhound are both reporting that all the restaurants located in the old Filene’s building in Downtown Crossing are being evicted effective July 31. Furthermore, because of the massive amounts of construction going down in the area, all pushcart-based vendors with more than one cart are required to give up at least one cart.
What does this all mean for the Downtown Crossing diner? Well, besides the plain and simple annoyances of having to navigate an area under massive construction for the next two and a half to three years, there will, quite simply, be a lot less fast food in the Downtown Crossing area. Definitely no more Washington Street Chacarero and, quite possibly no more Herrera’s Mexican Grill. No more Greek treats from Mediterraino or stopping at Lambert’s to pick up some early morning fruit. How sad.
