Brookline Farmers’ Market Safe For Now

Good news for Brooklinians! After yesterday’s powwow between two poetically named town residents, Farmers’ Market organizer Arlene Flowers and Director of Engineering and Transportation Peter Ditto, it seems the market will live to see another season. Apparently that 533% fee hike we reported on yesterday truly was, as Selectmen Chairman Gil Hoy claimed, a baseless rumor. Either that or Hoy, Ditto et. al. realized that putting the farmers’ market out of business would be a wildly unpopular move and decided against it. Whatever. No matter what the situation may have been, it looks as though this is not the end of the line for Brookline’s farmers market and thank goodness for that! The Brookline farmers’ market really does have an excellent selection, including regular visits from Clear Water Bakery and River Rock Farm. The market is open tomorrow afternoon, so go! Celebrate! Buy some chevre from Westfield Farm. It’ll taste all the better for being (sort of) hard-won.
