B-R-E-A-K-Fast Drama

It’s been quite some time since we checked in on the Ball Square breakfast glut. Last we checked, local legend Sound Bites had juuuust moved out of its former location at 708 Broadway and was planning to move nearby. Now, owner Yasser Mizra has followed through on his plan and oh! Has he moved nearby! Sound Bites has reopened next door to its old space.

But what, you might ask, is going into the old Sound Bites space? We’re so glad you inquired. 704 Broadway will now house Ball Square Cafe & Breakfast, a new restaurant from Mike Moccia, owner of Victor’s Deli, which holds the lease on the space. Thus far, this all seems pretty calm. Yes, perhaps there is an overabundance of breakfast options in Ball Square (don’t forget that True Grounds and Kelly’s Diner also call the neighborhood home), but who doesn’t love breakfast?

But wait! There’s more! It seems that Mizra and Moccia have gotten themselves in a bit of a feud. The Somerville News reports that Moccia is advertising the fact that Ball Square Cafe & Breakfast has a Sound Bites cook on staff, but Mizra contends “I’ve never lost one cook” but Moccia “stole my dishwasher.” Burn. Mizra has further harsh words for his one-time landlord: “He tried to steal my thunder, but he created more lightning.” It seems an all-out Ball Square Breakfast Battle is upon us. Given Sound Bites’ loyal following, we’d give the advantage to Mizra. Who do you think will prevail?
