It is that time of the year again (summer), and the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for Ribfest Chicago - a festival, if you can believe it, of ribs. It’s going on all weekend (Sat-Sun, 12pm-10pm). Last year, 20,000 people showed up for the music and BBQ, and this year, the NCC is expecting over 30,000. That sounds supremely optimistic, and we have no idea what could justify their projection of a 50% increase…maybe the favorable weather? Or maybe our favorable endorsement. In fact, we think it’s worth the trip up to the megasection of Damen, Lincoln and Irving Park for the quantity and quality of participating restaurants. Highlights include newcomer Cordis Brothers Supper Club (BBQ Ribs, French Fries), Cy’s Steak & Chop House (BBQ Ribs [pictured], BBQ Chicken), Hecky’s (BBQ Ribs, Rib Sandwich, Italian Beef), Lagniappe (Pulled Pork, Crawfish, Crab) and Smokin’ Woody’s (Rib Sandwich, Rib Tips Sandwich, Brisket Sandwich). Also, they’re packing 22 family-friendly live music performances into the 20 hours of the festival, so bring your kids, your earplugs, or both.
