Chicago’s intrepid food bloggers were all over the damn place last week, in alphabetical order by restaurant
• A pleasant oasis on an otherwise uneventful River West street, the Breakfast Club is a lovely spot to while away a morning over a cup of coffee and hash browns [Drive-Thru]
• Old French bistro standby Cafe Bernard does an adequate job of presenting the standards, but not much more than that [Skillet Doux]
• Annointed one of Saveur’ favorite steak houses, Gene & Georgetti is “a consummate insiders’ restaurant,” which is to say, people don’t really go for the food [Food Chain]
• Great neighborhood spot Heartland Cafe serves up buffalo burgers and local beers to an appreciative crowd [Chicago Foodies]
• While not exactly authentic, the tacos at John’s Place are thoroughly enjoyable to an American palate [Drive-Thru]
• The $1.95 burger may seem like a good deal at McCormick & Schmick’s, but you have to buy two beers to get it, and the burger is not very good at all [Chicago Burger Project]
• High-concept Schwa really delivers on taste and enthusiasm; Alinea-lite is a helpful, if not entirely apt, epitaph [Hungry Mag]
• Neither the soft shell crab nor the tuna impress at Sushi Wabi, which has a good reputation, but apparently does not always live up to it [Drive-Thru]
