To Be A Hot Dog Vendor

Over at the New York Times, they sent a reporter to be a hot dog vendor for a day over at Shea Stadium:

Vending is a “spec” job: applicants show up hoping there is work available and that their appearance meets with Tom’s approval. Tom noted that I was out of uniform in my snowboarding jacket, jeans and blue sweater. But as I had agreed to donate my hot-dog vending proceeds to charity, he gave me a pass. I naïvely asked what kind of training I would receive.“T.B.F.,” he replied, lighting a cigarette. “We’re talking trial by fire.”

Here in Philly, Citizen’s Bank Park has a variety of hot dog options. You’ve got the stand vendors, numerous concessions and a few sit down restaurants like Chickie’s & Pete’s and McFadden’s. Offsite, both Tony Luke’s and the Oregon Diner are a quick ride away.
