Work Out Your Taste Buds

Is watching today’s (very cold!) Marathon making you wish you were in better shape? Have you already set yourself a goal to be ready to run in a couple of years time? Ambitious reader, it’s time to join a gym. Now, if you’re anything like us, the odds are that you’re not too terribly crazy about exerting yourself. Finding the motivation to exercise often requires good old fashioned bribery and what could be a more effective form of bribery than an excellent (yet healthful!) meal? So, if you, like us, are the kind of person who chooses a gym based on its food offerings, here are three of your best bets.

•Southie’s Boston Athletic Club features the in-house Summer Street Grille. While menu items like a good old-fashioned bacon cheeseburger may not be healthy, the Grille also offers a wide selection of salads and low-calorie wraps.
•The ne plus ultra of gym-based dining can be found at the oddly-named The Sports Club/LA: Boston, which houses blu. If the promise of a post-workout lemon-brined chicken sandwich isn’t enough to make you hop on the elliptical, we don’t know what is.
•At the Mount Auburn Club in Watertown, gym rats can carbo-load on sandwiches made with Iggy’s bread from the club’s Mac’s Market & Cafe, where the healthful menu is matched by a stellar smoothie bar. Not too shabby for a day at the gym.
