At the risk of appearing both repetitive and unusually obsessed with whiskeys, we simply must key you in to a syzygial convergence of bourbon, bourbon makers, and roasted meats at Chief O’Neill’s (7:30pm; $10) and Twisted Spoke (8pm; free) tonight. Unlike yesterday’s Imbibing, the two events tonight are competing head-to-head in content, if not in details. The Chief will be offering up two spit-roasted, Bulleit bourbon-infused pigs to accompany a gaggle of whiskey personalities, including Tom Bulleit himself and Evan Cattanach, the Master Distiller Emeritus who emceed last night’s event at The Palm. The Spoke’s counteroffer starts with a $12.95 all you can eat (AYCE, from now on) Old Fashion Pot Roast with all the fixings, to be washed down by barrel samples of bourbon. Who’s serving them? Not some doe-eyed youngin’, but instead, real live Bourbon men from the Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, and so forth.
What’s crazy is, Binny’s on Lakeview is also doing a whiskey tasting tonight, also featuring distillers (but it’s sold out). Are all these people in Chicago because of the IACP Conference? We’d like to think so.
