Attention, Astoria shoppers! Apparently there weren’t enough Greek eateries in the Queens neighborhood, so come April 17 there’ll be a gyro spot in the strip mall at 21st and Broadway. Mr. Gyros should be a step up from the usual food-court fare — operator Demetris Astin, who also owns Demetris in the nabe, has been a gyro hero of sorts since 1978, when he started Mediterranean, a pita purveyor that pumped out a million pockets per week. His premade gyros have even made it to Japan. Everything at his new 60-seater will be made fresh, in house: In addition to the usual suspects (gyros, falafel, souvlaki), there are salads, seafood plates such as filet of sole and charcoal jumbo shrimp, egg-lemon soup, and desserts such as baklava and homemade yogurt topped with honey and walnuts.

Mr. Gyros, 21-19 Broadway, Astoria; 718-204-5569.
